Brushless DC motors

What is a brushless DC motor?

A brushless DC motor (BLDC) is a direct current motor that is used without carbon brushes. There is no electrical contact between the rotor (moving motor part) and the stator (fixed motor part) in a BLDC. Strictly speaking, a brushless DC motor is not a direct current motor, but a three-phase synchronous motor. The stator consists of coils, while the rotor is permanently energised with a direct current.

What is a brushless DC motor used for?

A brushless DC motor is used, for example, in electric vehicles or computer fans as well as household appliances such as hoovers. The advantage of such a motor is its quiet and durable design, which enables high speeds and a high level of efficiency.
