CAN bus

What is a CAN bus?

CAN bus stands for Controller Area Network and is a standardised bus system, i.e. a system for data transmission between several participants via a common transmission path.

It was developed by Bosch in 1983. The CAN bus allows sensors, actuators and control units to communicate directly without the need for a central computer. The advantage of a CAN bus is its robustness and efficiency as a communication system.

What is a CAN bus used for?

Motor controllers can be connected to sensors and actuators via the CAN bus. This saves cabling, especially in vehicles and other machines.
