What is IEC 61800-5-1?

IEC 61800-5-1 is an international safety standard for adjustable speed power drive systems. The standard was published in November 2024 and specifies requirements for power drive systems, including electrical, thermal and energy-related safety considerations. The standard applies to the entire electrical drive system.

What is IEC 61800-5-1 used for?

The standard is applied to all parts of a drive system and sets out the safety requirements. The development of a drive system is based on this. Testing institutes can then test the systems for compliance with the standard.
