What is MODBUS?
The MODBUS protocol is a communication protocol based on a so-called client/server architecture. MODBUS enables standardised and standardised data exchange between different devices. This means that a client (e.g. a PC) can be connected to several servers (e.g. a measuring system). The client initiates communication with the servers, which then respond to the requests.
What is MODBUS used for?
MODBUS is frequently used in automation projects:
- Building automation
- Control and monitoring of air conditioning units, ventilation systems, heating systems and meters
- Industrial automation
- Control of communication between controllers, measuring devices and motors, for example
- HEMS (energy management systems)
- Control of various actuators in an intelligent management system
