THT - Through Hole Technology

What is THT?

THT stands for Through Hole Technology.
It is a process in electronics production in which the components with wire connections, so-called pins, are inserted through drilled holes in a printed circuit board. These are then soldered from the back.

Where is THT used?

THT is primarily used for components subject to high mechanical stress, such as high-current components in power electronics.

Synonyms:

Push-through technology
Hole mounting

Another technique is the SMT (Surface Mount Technology), where the components are not plugged through but soldered to the surface.
