Induction
What is induction?
Induction refers to the physical principle by which an electric voltage is generated when a magnetic field is changed in a conductor. The basis for this is the induction law, which describes the relationship between the temporal change in magnetic flux and the resulting voltage.
What is inductive lane guidance used for?
This principle is specifically used in inductive lane guidance for vehicles. Along the driving route, cables installed create a defined electromagnetic field that is detected by the sensors integrated in the vehicle. The control system continuously calculates the vehicle’s position relative to the guide track based on the field strength and the field location. This enables precise steering maneuvers and reliable adherence to the specified driving path – even in complex road layouts or in industrial environments.
Advantages of the procedure
The inductive track guidance operates without wear, as no mechanical guidance is required between the vehicle and the roadway, and no wear or contamination of optical markings or strips occurs. At the same time, the method is largely insensitive to dirt, dust, or changing light conditions and is therefore particularly suitable for use in intralogistics, production automation, and in driverless transport systems.
