Machinery Regulation
What is the Machinery Directive?
The Machinery Directive is the EU Regulation (EU) 2023/1230. It regulates the safety and health protection requirements for machinery, related products, and incomplete machinery within the European Union. With this regulation, it replaces the previous Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC as of January 20, 2027, and creates uniform requirements for the placing on the market and commissioning of machinery within the European internal market.
What is the purpose of the Machinery Directive?
The goal of the EU Machinery Directive is to ensure a high level of safety and health protection for users, consumers and, where applicable, the environment. At the same time, it harmonizes the requirements for machinery within the European Union, thereby supporting the free movement of goods. For companies, this means greater legal clarity and a uniform safety level in Europe.
What is the purpose of the Machinery Directive?
For electrically powered vehicles and machines, the correct legal classification is crucial. Certain vehicles of this type may fall under the Machinery Directive if no specific EU type approval is required. Therefore, manufacturers and importers should promptly assess which legal requirements, safety standards, and conformity procedures apply to the respective product.
