What is OTA?

OTA stands for over the air, i.e. „wireless“ or „cable-free“ or literally translated „over the air“.
OTA describes processes in which software, firmware or other data is transferred wirelessly to devices. For example, newer software versions can be downloaded to devices in the field without them having to be physically on site. The transfer then takes place via various protocols. Examples of this are WLAN or mobile radio.

What is OTA used for?

OTA is used wherever devices are regularly updated or need to be serviced remotely.
